Speaker: Dr. Terry Sterry, NASA Employee Assistance Program Manager

 

Dr. Sterry is the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Coordinator at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), in Huntsville.  Serving in this role since June of 2013, he provides consultation, counseling, and crisis intervention services to employees and teams.  He also provides briefings and presentations on topics related to well-being.  In addition to operating the EAP, Dr. Sterry serves on the MSFC Threat Assessment and Advisory Group (TAAG) and the Team Redstone Behavioral Health Working Group, and as lead of Marshall’s Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team.
 
Dr. Sterry is a licensed psychologist and has worked in the field of mental health for over 20 years.  He graduated from UAH with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, and then went to the University of Cincinnati for his master’s and doctoral degrees.  Past clinical experience includes five years working at a state psychiatric hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, 10 years at a residential treatment facility for children and adolescents, 2 years at community mental health centers, and seven years in private practice.  Dr. Sterry has also served as adjunct faculty at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati State Community and Technical College, and as clinical faculty at Wright State University, in Dayton, Ohio.
 
Dr. Sterry and his wife, Brenda, live in Meridianville.  They have two adult children, Ellen and Russell, who also live in the Huntsville/Madison County area.

Objectives:

(1) Participants will be able to describe wellbeing and its multifaceted nature

(2) Participants will be able to identify at least three strategies for improving and/or maintaining wellbeing

(3) Participants will be able to identify at least three reasons that wellbeing is an important aspect of talent
